-Gluten Free Makeup and Cosmetic Brands List – The Ultimate Guide

Have you ever wondered which makeup products are gluten free?

Ever spent a good 15 minutes reading the ingredient’s in makeup products and then trying to decipher their chemical names to determine whether or not they actually contain gluten?

If so, you are not alone.

Many members of the gluten free and Celiac communities are in the same boat.

Thankfully, there is an easier way that’ll save you tons of time and allow you to purchase your makeup and cosmetics with ease and confidence.

I went ahead and put together a list of all the major cosmetic and makeup companies that offer gluten free products.

And don’t worry, if a company has cross-contamination issues in their factories or aren’t 110% confident that their products meet the federal gluten free regulation of 20 ppm (parts per million), I’ll be sure to clearly state that.

But before we get to the listing, let’s talk about one important thing first…

Can Gluten Be Absorbed Through Skin?

Now according to the Mayo Clinic, gluten can’t be absorbed through the skin. Since the gluten proteins are very large, it’s virtually impossible for it to be absorbed.

The main issue arises when it’s accidentally swallowed or ingested. That’s why it’s so important to use gluten free products are your mouth such as lipstick and lip balm.

But this can also be extended to all cosmetic products as well.

So it’s fine to use products that contain gluten then, right?

Well, no. Unless you’re a risk taker.

Just think about it…

ver washed your face with makeup on the water that just touched your skin and makeup go into your mouth? Ingestion.

Ever used lipstick and licked your lips? Ingestion.

These are just a couple of the many waysThese products can be ingested.

Testing for Gluten…Who Does It?

Testing for gluten is the only trustworthy way to determine whether or not a product is gluten free or not because it’s the only way to keep the consumer, YOU, safe.

Even if a product or company claims to use ingredients free from gluten or other allergenic proteins, there’s still a chance that the product is cross contaminated with gluten during manufacturing.

That’s why I recommend using products that are tested for gluten, especially if you’re severely allergic or sensitive to gluten.

Although you can’t always guarantee 100% that the product is gluten free, there’s still a higher level of confidence instilled into the buyer that allows them to use it with ease.

On the gluten free makeup list below, I also noted which companies test for gluten.

Okay with that being said, let’s jump straight into the gluten free cosmetics and makeup listing.

Tips For Buying Gluten Free Beauty Products

As mentioned above, everything that you put on you skin has the potential to enter your bloodstream, due to accidental ingestion.

From mascara to eye liners to chapstick and hair dye, these products can lead to allergic reactions if you aren’t buying gluten free variations.

With the number of cosmetics and beauty products that we use every day, even the tiniest amount of gluten can cause major problems.

That’s why it’s so important to be extra cautious with anything that you ingest or put on your precious skin.

Here are a few ways to help you buy the best and safest gluten free beauty and cosmetic products without any risks of glutening yourself.

1. Watch out for hidden wheat ingredient names

Some cosmetic ingredients are sometimes listed using uncommon terms. It’s not often that you’ll find wheat, barley, rye, oat, etc, listed on the back of any cosmetic products. This is mainly because most companies tend to use scientific names, most of which aren’t commonly known by the average joe.

2. Read the Labels and Ingredients List

If you’re not doing this, you’re taking the biggest risk possible. But I’m 99% confident of you are already doing this. So this is for the one percenters out there.

When looking for a gluten free makeup or beauty product, always be on the lookout for a GF seal or symbol on the packaging. Or better, try to find “gluten free” or something similar. That way, you can be sure that it’s safe to use.

But also, before you buy, be sure to check the ingredients and try to find any glutenous ingredients including their scientific names.

Hidden Gluten Terms in Cosmetics and Beauty Products

Gluten can be anywhere and sometimes, it’s even listed using scientific terms that know one even knew were words.

And the scary part is that there are hundreds of ingredients that could contain barley, rye, oats, and wheat.

But do you know how to find where that gluten is buried?

Thankfully, I found this pretty awesome graphic and list by Gluten Free Makeup Gal that you should definitely check out. Also check out here blog for awesome gluten free makeup and cosmetic products reviews.
